SOCCER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

AFA’s Youth Development Program is focused on developing players from U7-U18. Pre-academy is our youngest group, ages 5-11, in this stage we focus on teaching all the soccer fundamentals: ball control, dribbling, and advancing to first touch, turns, passing, and shooting. At the Academy stage, ages 12-17, we will continue to prioritize the technical development with the addition of field awareness, decision making, and team tactics. Teams will participate in one of the three following leagues: Elite Development Program (EDP), National Capital Soccer League (NCSL), or Montgomery Soccer Inc. (MSI Classic).

WHEN ARE THE TRYOUTS?

The club accepts tryouts after the “official” team tryouts are over. If for some reason you are unable to attend tryouts please email us afa@afasoccer.com and we will give another tryout option. Please check out our tryout page for more information.

DURATION OF THE SEASON

Teams will typically start their season in August and end in June of the following year. Each team will play in Fall outdoor league, Winter indoor/futsal league, 1-2 tournaments and Spring outdoor league. 

PRACTICES

Each team will practice twice per week during Spring/Fall seasons and One to Two practices per week during the Winter. The coach/manager will provide practice dates and times. 

GAMES

League games will be held on Saturdays and Sundays only. Tournament matches will be typically be held on Saturdays and Sundays. However, there may be some matches held on Fridays or Mondays, depending upon if the tournament is held over a holiday weekend. Please consult with your manager if you have any questions about game or practice times.

HOW MANY PLAYERS ON THE FIELD?

U8 -   5v5 
U9 -   5v5 
U10 - 5v5

SIZE OF THE FIELD AND GAME LENGHT

Field layout: The 5v5 field size is 60 ft x 100 ft. (20 x 35 Yards) and Goal sizes will be Futsal size goals

 

Game Length: 8U-10U: 40 minutes (20-minute halves)
